Psychosocial Support Services

Let’s face it – the way we feel about ourselves and others, our moods and our relationships all impact on our sexual attitudes and behaviour. Health4Men offers a range of free psychosocial services that augment our medical services. These include the following:

Counselling:

We offer free, professional short-term counselling to men on any dynamic that relates to their sexual wellbeing. In addition to counselling individual men we specialise in counselling same-sex male couples in a confidential and relaxed environment. Men who have recently tested HIV positive or who are about to initiate HIV-related treatment are encouraged to utilise our counselling service.

Psychiatric services:

Free specialist psychiatric consultations and medication are available at our . You’ll need to be referred by one of our doctors or our psychosocial manager. For your convenience consultations are conducted at our clinic.

Support and Discussion groups:

Join any of Health4Men's FREE groups! All groups are are professionally facilitated specially for gay and bisexual men.

MONDAY GROUP: for guys interested in all things sexual. Relaxed evening meetings on the second Monday of every month at 18h00. Our next meeting is on  8 August @ 18hoo at Green Point office, Cape Town.

Obviously the group for everyone! An opportunity to discuss and ask those akward what? how? questions about sex and sexuality and to learn about responsible play.

WEDNESDAY GROUP: for guys living with HIV.  Evening meetings on the first Wednesday of every month. Our next meeting will be on 3 August @ 18h00 at Green Point office, Cape Town.

A really chilled discussion space for guys living with HIV. Meet others, share experiences and stay in the loop.

SATURDAY GROUP: for guys recently screened HIV positive. Meets on two Saturday afternoons @ 14h00 each month. Our first meeting was on 25 June and the next two will be on 9 and 23 July @14h00 at Green Point office, Cape Town. August meetings : 6 and 20 August.

For guys who screened positive during the preceding six months or those who have not attended any support groups in the past. Get all the info you need in a safe and relaxed environment.

SUNDAY GROUP: for HIV negative guys with positive partners. Afternoon meetings on one Sunday per month at 15h00. Our next meeting will be on 17 July @ 15h00 at Green Point office, Cape Town.

If your partner is positive, you will definitely benefit from this opportunity to learn about supporting him while also looking after yourself and your relationship.

Confidentiality is addressed at every meeting !!

Seminars:

Our free monthly seminars, which are always relaxed and after-hours events, address various topical issues related to male sex. Seminar topics address various aspects of HIV and AIDS, recreational drugs and antiretroviral treatment, barebacking, control and bondage, an “Ass Class” that addresses psychological and health dynamics related to anal sex, and testicular cancer.
