The Anova Health Institute, Health4Men’s parent body, has been awarded a significant five-year grant by the United States President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), via USAID.
The grant, appropriately named Innovations, was awarded to Anova after several South African groups applied for funding to extend sexual health services for men who have sex with men (MSM) in South Africa. The funding will be used by Health4Men to extend MSM-competent health services into Mpumalanga, Limpopo and North West Province, while also extending existing MSM-competent services in Gauteng and the Western Cape.
The rollout of these services will be done in close collaboration with the Department of Health, with support provided to the department at national, provincial and district levels. A significant aspect of the rollout of services will be competency-based training and mentoring of health workers in order to address prejudice and to ensure that gay men, plus other men who have sex with men, receive competent STI and HIV-related services.
